NOTTINGHAM, UK - 17.10.09. Hundreds of climate camp activists rushed the perimeter fences of Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station with the aim to shut it down. Scuffles flared as hundreds of protesters used bolt cutters and ropes to pull down sections of the electrified fence. During the skirmishes one policeman was airlifted to hospital with head injuries but later released. Over 50 people where arrested for a variety of offences, including aggravated trespass and criminal damage.  The 2,000mw coal-fired power station is owned by the energy company E.ON and said to be one of the largest producers of carbon dioxide in Britain..
